Dastangoi is a 13th century Urdu oral storytelling art form invented Amir khusrow. This form of the art was revived in 2005 and thousands of shows have been performed in India and abroad since than.
At the centre of dastangoi is the dastango, or storyteller, whose voice is his main artistic tool in orally recreating the dastan or the story. TRADITIONAL CRAFTS: Sanjhi or paper-cutting
Sanjhi is a traditional art-form from Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) region, in which the artist uses the motifs from the stories of Lord Krishna's life and are depcited by creating cut-outs in paper. The artist uses special scissors and hours of dedication to bring to life these events and motifs .
A unique thing which was introduced in this Sanjhi art was, using the motifs and patterns from the architectural heritage of Nizamuddin Area. The All India Artisans and Craftworkers Welfare Association (AIACA), established in 2004 as a Society, is a membership based organization for the handloom and handicrafts sector in India. It aims to develop craft based enterprises and explore new and commercially sustainable models of livelihood generation.
Through AIACA’s extensive experience in the crafts sector for more than 10 years, it has been realized that technology is a critical component of making craft businesses efficient and competitive in the contemporary world.
